This is an example of connotation because this word increases the emotions of Hassan. The use of connotation also reveals a social issue as well as a cultural value for the poor or minority. Due to the fact that Hassan is a Hazara, he is illiterate, therefore Hosseini can only choose to say he is admiring the text rather than following along with the words on the page. Hassan can only be captivated because he does not know what the words mean. With the word "seduced" it emphasizes the want for Hassan to understand words because it almost seems like he is attracted to a drug, in the perspective that he really needs it. This, then leads to the cultural values for the poor where they value education because they are never able to recieve it. Because Afghan society is set up in a way where once one is born in a minority group,one is bound to be stuck there. Therefore, in this example, Hosseini can be seen using connotation to increase emotional aspects which helps communicate issues and values of Afghanistan.
