"the tree was ours"

This quote, especially the word "our" once again shows the the value of friendship. In particular, it shows the bond between Amir and Hassan, two people of different ethnicities. In tradition ideas, it seems like it is impossible for a Pashtun and Hazara to agree on something let alone share something that both agrees to be only theirs. The use of "ours" is an example of connotation because it heightens the effectiveness of carving in the tree by expressing a positive emotions shared among Amir and Hassan and brings readers to ideas of other aspects in life where objects belong to more than one person. For exmaple, through bonding, or trust.
